Dried konjac noodles: no fishy smell, no smelly packing water

Most konjac (shirataki) noodles come wet, sealed in fishy-smelling water. Ours are dried, so there's no smell when you open the pouch and they keep in the cupboard. Simmer for 10 minutes, rinse and drain, and they're ready: a bit of bite, not slimy, and they take on the flavour of whatever you cook them with.

  • Low calorie: 37 kcal per 100 g cooked, 44 kcal per serving
  • 4.8 g fibre and 8.4 g carbohydrate per serving (of which sugars 0.5 g)
  • 1 pouch = 2 servings: 100 g dry makes 240 g of noodles
  • Keeps in the cupboard: no fridge, no liquid
  • Gluten free and vegan

Use them for Thai curry, pad Thai, stir fries, ramen and soups, cold noodle salads, or as a spaghetti swap. Eat them warm or cold, which makes them handy for work lunches.

About £2 per serving in the 6-pack (12 servings, £23.90). Not sure yet? Try the Noodles & Rice trial set (£8.70).

Tip: you can also cook them straight in soups and sauces without rinsing, so they soak up more flavour. A little of the tapioca syrup coating then stays on, so energy, carbohydrate and sugars go up slightly.

Questions people ask about konjac noodles

Do konjac noodles smell fishy?
Wet shirataki noodles often do, because they're packed in liquid that you have to wash out. Ours are dried konjac noodles, so there's no fishy smell when you open the pouch and no smelly water to rinse away.

Dried vs wet shirataki noodles: what's the difference?
Wet shirataki come in a bag of liquid and can feel slimy or rubbery. Dried konjac noodles keep in the cupboard, have a firmer al dente bite, and soak up sauce and broth as they cook.

How do you cook dried konjac noodles?
Simmer them in boiling water for 10 minutes, then rinse and drain. Or add them straight to a soup, broth or sauce and let them cook in it.

Can you eat konjac noodles cold?
Yes. Cook, rinse and cool them for cold noodle salads and packed lunches.

How many calories and carbs are in konjac noodles? Are they OK for keto or a low carb diet?
A 120 g serving has 44 kcal and 8.4 g carbohydrate, of which sugars 0.5 g. The noodles contain a little tapioca starch and tapioca syrup, so they are not carb free. If you're on a keto or low carb diet, or managing your blood sugar, use these figures to fit them into your plan.

Are konjac noodles gluten free and vegan?
Yes. Use them as gluten free pasta, spaghetti or noodles in any dish.
